Selly Oak parents and carers give generously to B30 Foodbank

PARENTS and carers at Selly Oak Nursery School showed their caring side when they gave generously to B30 Foodbank.

Following a plea from the school to bring in food over the last two weeks a large haul was donated to the charity, which is experiencing high demand this Christmas.

Based at The Cotteridge Church on Pershore Road, the good cause saw a 50 per cent rise in the number of people using it in November compared to the same time in 2017, increasing from 609 to 930.

In the week ending December 15th, it had provided 356 three day emergency food supplies to people in crisis including 164 for children, a total of 2,854kg of food.

After collecting the haul from Selly Oak, founder Roger Collins said: “The Foodbank makes an incredible difference in people’s lives this time of year.

“Last week we fed around 700 people through the course of the week. People are referred to us by vouchers which are either from the Northfield or Selly Oak constituency.”
