BIRMINGHAM City Council Head of Education Colin Diamond CBE hailed Selly Oak's 'rich learning environment' during a visit to the school.

Mr Diamond paid a visit after we achieved our fourth 'Outstanding' grade from Ofsted in a row.

He met with Head Teacher Mrs James, Deputy Mrs Foster, parents and Governors. He then met the children and was given a tour of the school by children.

An impressed Colin said: "What really strikes me is the rich learning environment. There are so many things going on across the four learning areas.

"What struck me is there is an atmosphere of calmness and independent learning that would be the envy of many primary and secondary schools."

One child's learning about Nepal

Following the tragic events in Nepal which killed nearly 9,000 people, the children learned about earthquakes and different cultures as part of Understanding the World.

One child was so enthused that he went home and shared his learning with his family. Here is a short video of him describing his understanding of the events.
