Registration - Frequently Asked Questions

PARENTS looking for a pre-school for their 3 and 4-year-olds beginning in September 2020 can apply for a place now.

If you are looking for a preschool that focuses on the wellbeing of the children under its care, then look no further than Selly Oak Nursery School.

Rated Outstanding by Ofsted in the last four inspections, we strive to provide the best introduction possible to education for young children.

How Do I Register?

You can register your child at any time by filling in the registration form and returning it to the school.

If you would like to be sent a form by post then why not drop an email to Alternatively, call the Paula Bayliss or Peter McKinney in School Office on 0121 472 1700.

Please then return the forms with three forms of ID, which are:

1)   Your child’s full birth certificate.

2)   Your child’s NHS red book.

3)   Proof of address – one of the following : i) council tax bill, ii) rental agreement or iii) mortgage statement.

Once the form has been returned and the ID seen, your child’s place on our waiting list will be secured.

From January 17 2020, we’ll be able to offer your child a place and will send you an Acceptance Form and other important paperwork by post.  Your child’s place at Selly Oak for the 2020-21 school year will be secured when these forms are returned.

When Can I Visit the Nursery?

We are running several open days to help parents learn more information about Selly Oak Nursery School. The dates are:

  • Monday, January 13th 2020 (1.30pm)
  • Tuesday, 11th February 2020 (1.30pm)
  • Wednesday, 1st April 2020 (10am)
  • Thursday, 14th May 2020 (10am)

Please call us on 0121 4721700 to book a place on an open day, where you will meet the Head Teacher and Deputy Head and be given a tour of the school.

If you cannot attend these dates but would still like to visit the School please call anyway to arrange a visit.

For safety reasons we ask that parents do not bring their children to the open days. Don’t worry; little ones who start with us in September will have induction days in the summer term to become use to their new surroundings.

What Places Do You Offer?

Selly Oak Nursery School is able to offer a range of full-time and part-time groups. Please read below for details.


30 hours - Monday to Friday (8.45am to 2.55pm). There will be a monthly top up fee (£385). Parents who are eligible can use the Government’s 30hr funding, childcare vouchers and the Tax Free Childcare account to pay for this.


15 hours*  - start of the week:  2.5 days - Monday (8.45am to 2.55pm), Tuesday (8.45am to 2.55pm) and Wednesday morning (8.45am to 11.30am).

15 hours*  - end of the week: 2.5days - Wednesday afternoon (12.30pm to 2.55pm), Thursday (8.45am to 2.55pm) and Friday (8.45am to 2.55pm).

*These options are paid for by the Govt’s universal 15 hour childcare funding.

18 hours**  - start of the week:  Three full days at the beginning of the week - Monday (8.45am to 2.55pm), Tuesday (8.45am to 2.55pm) and Wednesday (8.45am to 2.55pm).

18hours**  - end of the week : Three full days at the end of the week - Wednesday (8.45am to 2.55pm), Thursday (8.45am to 2.55pm) and Friday (8.45am to 2.55pm).

** There will be a top up fee each month (£86). Parents who are eligible can use the Government’s 30hr funding, Tax Free Childcare Account or childcare vouchers to pay for this.

What Happens Once My Child’s Place is Secured?

Once your child’s place is secured, you will be invited to various events over the Summer Term to help them settle in. They are:

1) Two half-day induction visits for you and your child to spend some time together in Nursery. An opportunity to meet the staff and familiarise yourself with our learning environment.

4) Attend an induction evening in July to meet the staff, learn about nursery procedures, induction arrangements for September, the curriculum and to ask any questions.

3) Attending our Summer Fayre.

4) In July arrange a home visit during the first week of September beginning the partnership between school and the family.

Do You Offer Breakfast and After School Clubs?

Yes - we run a Breakfast Club (7.30am to 8.45am) and Out of School Club until 5.45pm each day. There is also a £10 administration fee.

Club fees for the 2020-21 are:

Breakfast Club: £8 per session.

After School Club: £13.90 per session.
