About the School

Welcome to Selly Oak Nursery School.

We are very proud of the history of our Nursery School, It was one of the first to be built in the country thanks to the support of the Cadbury family. We remain committed to the vision of George Cadbury in providing high quality care and education.

In January 2012, we became a Local Authority Nursery School. The land and buildings remain in a charitiable trust and we have a Board of Trustees who are responsible for ensuring the buildings and land are fit for purpose.

The Nursery is driven by quality as evidenced by our last three Section 5 Ofsted Reports, We have a dedicated highly skilled teaching team including teachers and teaching assistants. All of our staff work hard to meet everyone`s individual needs and to be partners in learning.

We are passionate about teaching and learning based on research and pedagogy. We ensure that our children are engage in learning experiences that challenge their thinking as well as igniting a thrust for future learning.

We work in partnership with many outside agencies. Our focus on Personal, Social and Emotional Development promotes confident children who are capable of building positive relationships and high self-esteem.

We recognise that in order for children to excel a partnership with parents / carers is absolutely key. There will be many opportunities for you to support your child`s learning and gain a deep understanding of how your child learns.

Selly Oak Nursery School is a great place to work. Each child and family is unique . Every day brings new exciting learning opportunities for us all. We continue to reflect on our school journey and strive to continuously improve what we do.

Ofsted commented `The school`s partnership with parents is a major strength. Parents have many opportunities to find out more about the school and their children`s learning. Learning targets are regularly shared and there are regular updates on progress. Parents spoke about how much they appreciated being able to come into school to see how activities are taught and to share these with their children. They are extremely positive about the school`s effectiveness. All parents said they would recommend the Nursery`.

Let your child be part of this special learning journey.

Why Nursery Schools Matter

OFSTED June 2013:

All staff and the governing body share the headteacher`s determination to provide the very best for every child. Staff morale is very high and the staff questionnaires show that staff are proud to be working at the school. Staff take every opportunity to learn from one another, try out new ideas and make learning fun. High quality teamwork is a major factor in the school`s success.
